If you have black hair and want to add a bit of life to your face, a simple copper highlight goes a long way for Asians with golden yellow skin toneLucy Liu. Auburn for those fair yellow or pinkish skin. The finer your hair, the brighter the initial colour would be because the dye can penetrate the entire shaft of hair quickly. So do not fret when there is a high contrast in the highlights and original hair colour.  There are some of us who aspire to be blonde, Asian blonde. I would not recommend a full blonde because ultimately, the base colour of our hair is black or dark brown. Well, you can either cause your skin to look white washed or simply unnatural. Not everyone can pulled off the colour and be called elegant. In this case, a chemical is used to bleach the hair before a new colour is added on. Remind yourself of your Asian roots (no pun intended).

If you are in an industry where being “conventional” is the key culture, as far as possible, choose a hair dye close to your hair colour. If creativity is stressed at your workplace, go ahead and be more adventurous. How you hightlight your hair affects the way your customers and colleagues see you. Do it with care and consideration.

Hair Day

Was playing with my friend’s hair the other day. See the difference whether you hide your ear behind the hair? The first photo looks more flattering because she has pointy ears. Look in the mirror and try checking if you look younger by showing more of your ears (yes show more skin). Shows interesting results.

I am pretty fortunate to have thick hair. Bet you cannot imagine my hair is twice the fullness back in my younger days because of the natural inner waves that I have. However after a hair treatment, it simply got tamed. Now that I have soft and managable silky hair, I make sure that I take good care of it by selecting the right shampoo. hairwash_big

Firstly, I love the current shampoo that I am using because it’s organic (no sodim laureth sulfate which cleans but dries that hair). Since my hair is thick, I would lather some on my palm, tuck my fingers underneath my hair and massage my scalp. This is especially important for me because I use hair wax very often and I want my hair to be thoroughly cleaned. Then I would rinse off with cool water. This prevents sudden stimulation of the scalp and thus reduce hair loss.

Secondly, to moisturise my hair, use a conditioner. I am very paticular about what I use because some conditioners simply contain ingredients that makes the hair limpy and oily throughout the day. It’s fine if your hair is dry and unruly but I need the volume (look for Polyquaternium 7). To clean out hair wax or gel, use conditioner first to soften the stiffness, rinse through then use shampoo.

Lastly, for volume, blow dry hair underneathe first with a circular hair brush followed by the top layer.

Happy hair day!

1214287518180Nowadays we are following more of Korean bridal hairstyle which is rather puffy and more relaxed in style as compared to the European style which are more sleek and traditional. I volunteered on the spot to do up my colleague’s makeup and hairstyle. Since I did not have my thongs, I simply used plaits and tucked it under her hair to give that puffy effect. She wanted a similar style like my bridal hair, however, to make it more interesting I created a bow-shape on the left side of her hair.

Oval
An oval face shape is supposedly the ideal face shape. However, a person can have a combination of face shape. The trick is to create a balance for the face and hair.
Pear

Pear

Pear shaped face has a larger jawline and narrow forehead. Strive a balance by creating an illusion of a fuller forehead by having fuller hair above the ears.
 Square

Reduce the number of angles on the face by having long hair and curls. Alternatively, a shoulder length hair blown inwards towards and hiding the jawline. Short hair might make you look very masculine.
Diamond

Similar to an oval face shape but with a pointy chin. Have shoulder length hair blown outwards creating the illusion of a wider chin and jawline.

This is a simple hair-do that you can do for any occassion. Divide one side of your hair into 3 sections – top, centre and bottom. Starting from the top, grasp some hair and pull it loosely to the other side of the head and secure with pins. Do the same for the centre and bottom. Repeat on the other side of the head but this time, leave the bottom section. If you have longer hair, you can curl it with a hair curler to give it that feminine look. You can also use colourful crystal pins or clips instead of black pins.

Been spending the morning curling my hair. First, curl the front bottom ends. As you move to the back of the hair, curl closer (tighter curls) to the scalp. This will create volume in the middle and top portion of the hair. Notice the cascading effects? End by spraying hair spray to hold the shape.
